Whisper Brief

Spring/Summer 2011

“Let not thy will roar when thy power can but whisper”
In a world of smoke and mirrors, whisper takes on the illusionary nature of a mirage in soft colours and hand-tinted finishes reminiscent of pre-colour photography. Yet this is not a static homage to a by-gone age. Movement is inherent in everything, from dancing flames to the dripping of a tap. Whether wet, frosted, burnt or cloudy, surface textures play with different levels of opacity, while furniture and architecture are skeletal – as interiors seamlessly blend with exteriors allowing the inside out, and vice versa.

Key words: wind, mist, smoke and rain. Partially concealed (wrapped/dissolving) ghosted imagery, mirrored glass distortion, marbling, semi-opaque transparency, shower curtains, heavy plastics, frosted glass, misty waterfalls, shiny iridescent marbles, jelly fish, bleeding colours, gradients.
Textures: Micro, pebbles, sand, stippling, marbling, spray foam, bubbles, crinkled aluminium, mother of pearl, swirling undulating rhythms, smoke rings, geysers, rattan.

Forms: dandelion clocks, seed pods, artichokes, roses (closed), thistles, electric pylons, bicycle wheels, honey combs, magnified snowflakes and cell structures.
